Quilting is a place for me to be creative and explore. I have been in a constant state of learning for the past year, and it’s been transformative and humbling. Quilting entered my life during a transitional phase and was an anchor point as things changed. My quilts are milestones marking not just my progress in quilting but the substantial changes happening while I was creating them.
I fell in love with quilting after my first one a year ago. Seeing my design come to life was so heartening, and I haven’t quite gotten over the sketch to quilt transformation yet. My first quilt was a gateway to discovering more about my Appalachian heritage and my grandmothers. While I missed the opportunity to learn from my grandmothers, I was collectively taught by the internet. It feels like the online sphere has filled in that void and helped me
grow as a novice quilter. I quilt because I can’t imagine stopping.
