Life Gets in the Way... Quilting is important to me because I enjoy the thrill and satisfaction. I fell in love with quilting when projects became a beautiful reality. Mom likely taught me to sew; she also was a quiltmaker. But it took me a few years to appreciate and participate.
Dad's father and grandfather were tailors. I have a quilt made by my grandfather using squares of suiting woolens.
Mom made quilts, Nana made Mom's clothes, her mom (my Great-Grandma) made quilts (I have one, as well as many scraps she saved).
I was in 4-H and sewed items. I made many of my daughter's childhood clothes. We didn't have digital cameras; I don't have many photos of early projects.
I was the editor for the America Online quilt group's Nine Patch News many years ago. I participated in fabric and block exchanges and for awhile hosted the Block of the Month website.
A friend allowed me to use her Millenium quilt machine (2002-2005) allowing me to quilt several of my quilts (including a "bowtie" quilt I made with blocks my Mom made - which I gifted to my brother).
I participated in a row robin quilt with an online "Mystery Quilt" group. I created a T-shirt quilt for my daughter.
Husband retired; we wintered in Florida; I worked at daughter's business; was sidelined by personal medical adjustments - quilting took a back seat. Life gets in the way...
Husband had knee replacement (still not walking). Last year (18 months ago) my husband went through Chemo treatments for Cancer - still tube feeding.
I purchased the Qnique 15 with stylus and rear handles; I'm just now hoping to get to use it; I have it set up but haven't yet plugged it in. DH was a pitcher in high school - "When life throws you a curve ball....." you do the best you can! A day at a time.....
